Sous Vide Or Not Sous Vide

Heating Food For Shabbos

The sous vide is gaining widespread recognition, beyond the restaurants and foodies. It’s an amazing tool for making gourmet cuisine in your own kitchen, without quite so many dirty dishes. The best part? You can just set it and forget it, and a few hours later, your steak will be cooked to perfection. Say, that gives me an idea- can I set up a sous vide before Shabbos, much like a crock pot, and pull out fresh, hot food for my Friday night meal? Hmm… what about sous vide cholent? What does the halacha say about it? Join us as we explore what happens when the laws of heating food on Shabbos intersect with the sous vide.
